CP210x drivers and Mac Problem

[ Edited ]

I have read all I can about problems with CP210x drivers not installing even on Mac 10.12.x.  I have the same problem and ended up trashing my system and installing as far back as 10.11.6 and the drivers will not show up.  The kext file is in /library/extenstions but ls /dev/cu* does not show the silab drivers.  Strange thing is that they were working on 10.12. at one time and then for some reason disappeared.  I have enough software experience to usually figure things out, but this is beyond my ability.  Hoping someone will finally get it working.

Re: CP210x drivers and Mac Problem

Hi @dudley,

What device are you using? What is the VID and PID? It could be similar to the problem mentioned here - http://community.silabs.com/t5/Interface/CP210X-USB-to-UART-Bridge-VCP-Driver-Not-Loading-Mac-OS-X-1...

If you haven't seen this already, more troubleshooting techniques are described in this article - http://community.silabs.com/t5/Interface-Knowledge-Base/Troubleshooting-the-CP210x-USB-to-UART-Bridg...

Best,

Thanks Manasa,

I previously worked through the two post you gave and checked it again.  No joy!  The kext file "SiLabsUSBDriver.kext" is in both Libraries.  It was installed in one and I used KextBeast to put it in the other library that has been used just in case.  What really is strange is that I have used this driver to program a drone flight controller for 2 or more years via a Chrome.app with no problems.  Then all of a sudden is disappears from the drop down menu in the app.  Now won't re-install.

I tried to get the VID/PID for the device, but no luck there either.  Maybe I don't know how to get it.  I have tried this on more than one mac as well and multiple systems.  Can't install.

thanks for your help

Problem solved.  Must have been using trying to connect to a bad flight controller on laptop so moved to desktop where problem escalated.  Then read where 10.12.2 broke the drivers so looked for software problem until my USB mouse stopped working...go figure..all joy now except for time lost...
