CP210x Virtual Com port not created after installing driver

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I am using a board which has CP2103 chip. I installed the CP210x driver from http://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/pages/usbtouartbridgevcpdrivers.aspx for my 32 bit windows 8 system. Installation proceeded successfully. But when I connect the board through the USB port, no Virtual com port is listed under "Ports" in Device Manager. I am testing on a system where I have full admin privilege(an issue was mentioned in a post : http://community.silabs.com/t5/8-bit-MCU/Error-Open-COM-Port-Admin-rights/m-p/26553/highlight/true#M...). No Com port was listed when I tried to open with Tera-term as well. Please help me with this issue and let me know if there is a solution for this.

Thanks,

Rihana

Rihana,

Do you see an Unknown USB device listed in your Device Manager device tree?  If you right-click on it and check properties, details, Hardware Ids, what does it list for VID and PID?

If the device doesn't show up in Device Manager, try to use a different port and see if that works - preferably a powered port.
