Question

How much does it cost to recertify a customized driver through Microsoft?

Answer

Absolutely no fees are collected by Silicon Labs. However, there are fees from Symantec and Microsoft. The historical pricing below can be used for budgetary purposes:

  1. Symantec Verisign 'Microsoft Authenticode' Digital ID: $500 *
  2. Reseller submission of default driver: $100 **
  3. Customized driver recertification (per OS family): $250 **

OS family choices are (were in 2007): Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista
Driver choices are: Virtual COM Port (VCP), USBXpress

Examples of how they add up:

  • Customer does not have a current Verisign ID; wishes to recertify drivers for Win XP, Win Vista:
    $500+$100+$250x2 = $1100
  • Customer does not have a current Verisign ID; wishes to recertify drivers for all Windows OS families:
    $500+$100+$250x4 = $1600
  • Customer has a current Verisign ID; wishes to recertify drivers for all Windows OS families:
    $100+$250x4 = $1100
  • Customer has a current Verisign ID; wishes to recertify drivers for Windows Vista only:
    $100+$250 = $350

* Verisign ID fee was found on the Verisign site: https://www.symantec.com/verisign/code-signing/microsoft-authenticode . Promotional price of $99 for the Versign ID can be obtained by through Microsoft for new customers. ** Microsoft fees were found on the microsoft site under 'Windows Logo Program Billing...': http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/gg487403.aspx?ppud=4
