Question

Is EFR32xG12 in the QFN48 package a drop-in replacement for earlier EFR32xG1 devices?

Answer

The EFR32xG12 is a drop-in replacement for QFN48-packaged EFR32xG1 applications except where vias have been located between pins and exposed GND pad, as these vias risk shorting to GND over time (depending on solder mask quality).   To avoid this concern, do not place vias in this region.
