How can I obtain a unique USB Product ID for use in my application?
A USB Device is identified using two 16-bit numbers:
- Vendor ID (VID)
- Product ID (PID)
A VID must be ordered directly from www.usb.org and costs around $5000. When buying a VID you then get a range of 64k PID numbers.
PID from Silicon Labs
For customers who do not want to buy their own VID, Silicon Labs can sub-license PID numbers for free under our own VID. To obtain such a PID number, visit the following page and fill out the request form:
NOTE: Products using the sub-licensed PIDs from Silicon Labs will not be eligible for USB Certification or use of the USB logo
