Application Notes and the v5.0.0 Gecko SDK

Hi all,

We recently released the v5.0.0 Gecko SDK, so I wanted to make sure everyone was aware that the Application Notes for the EFM32 devices are no longer present in this SDK. We're in the process of changing the way these are delivered in Simplicity Studio v4 to improve the overall flexibility we have with this collateral.  By removing them from the SDK, we can update them or add new documents at any time, rather than being restricted to the times when the SDK updates.

What does this mean right now?

When you select the v5.0.0 SDK, no application notes will be listed for the EFM32 devices.  We are in the process of fixing this.

To gain access to the application notes, install v4.4.1 of the Gecko SDK and momentarily select it to be your preferred SDK within Simplicity Studio.  All of the application notes will then appear when an EFM32 device is selected or be available through search.  Alternatively, you can access these and download the example source code at any time on our website at www.silabs.com/32bit-appnotes.

What does this mean long term?

We're in the process of updating the application notes to sit in parallel with the SDK.  We're working to address this as quickly as possible, but it may not be available until February 2017.

Once the application notes are updated, they will be available in Simplicity Studio regardless of the SDK version selected.

Thanks for your patience while we resolve this, and please reach out to us here or through our technical support portal if you need assistance.

Re: Application Notes and the v5.0.0 Gecko SDK

Hi all,

A quick follow-up to this.  This is now fixed for SDK v5.x.x as of yesterday's updates!  These Application Notes are now categorized separately from the SDK package, which means we can update them at any time now, as well, rather than waiting for the next SDK release.
